ITS FRIDAY!!!

I love this Human League song - soooooo 80's, sooooooo good! Enjoy. Happy Friday x

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Baby its cold outside

Oh I do like to wake up to a snow covered landscape. On the way to work was somewhat dodgy, trying hard not to slip on my ass was not a good look! However, everyone on the street seem more friendly than usual, making eye contact and commenting on the cold conditions - so that was nice n jolly!
It's business as usual at Mama San's. If you 're feeling too cosy and don't want to leave the house ( I don't blame you) don't forget you can order online and we will deliver straight to your door. Easy and hassle free - Lovley!!!

Ricky Powell is cooooool

Basquiat and Warhol - I want this picture so much!

The MAN

I had an amazing night at the old Brighton Music Library last night. Legendary photographer Ricky Powell did a live talk/ slide show with DJ Format supplying the tunes. Ricky talked his audience through a set of amazing celebrity snapshots. These included early Beastie Boys (looking v v young) John Lee Hooker, Run DMC, Andy Warhol,Sophia Coppola, Jean - Michel Basquiat, Public Enemy, Keith Haring.
Ricky is exceptionally humble, down to earth and despite the huge talent in the room the whole affair had a low key vibe with lots of audience participation. He is also funny and the dude obviously still likes to party. The venue is a cold place but there was something quite appealing about the derelict basement and the underground buzz thats fast disappearing in Brighton. My fingers were numb, the toilets were disgusting but it was great and as I walked out I kept thinking to myself "what a life this man's lead - WHAT A LIFE!" Brilliant!

ITS FRIDAY!!!

This is an oldie but still makes me want to dance everytime I hear it!!! Aretha makes it look so effortless, not a key out of tune, and clearly loving it - just incredible. Happy Friday!!!

Love this Love Story

I watched "The Way We Were" again last week. I'd forgotten how fabulous this film was. Streisand and Redford are totally amazing. I love Streisand's character Katie. She is headstrong, intelligent, stands up for what she believes in yet she is vulnerable, caring and sooooo in love with Hubbell. As for Redford - Hubbell, the face of an Angel, but how can one forgive his actions towards the end of the film ? Although I know the ending, I always wish it could turn out differently every time I watch it.
There are so many amazing scenes in this film but I chose this one because it is the first time the two character's engage in a proper conversation and the part where Hubbel ties up Katie's shoe lace at the end is one of the most romantic scenes I have ever seen. Enjoy

Peace to Japan

I've been back in UK for one week and the memories of Japan are still as fresh. So, this is what we got up to:

Hong Kong was our first stop. We hung out for 3 days with my dear family. They threw a big post Wedding party for us, and the night ended up with Vodka's at a Russian bar - where shots were imbibed in a big ice room and a massive karoke session.

Next stop Tokyo. Fast, neon kingdom, clean and full of vibrance and energy. This city has some of the BEST shops I have ever seen. Going into shops such as Commes des Garcons and Hysteric Glamour is like walking into a museum. The designs, the detail and the tailering is truly inspirational. So much thought and creativity is put into merchandising and displays- there was a back room in Hysterics where all four walls and every inch of the ceiling was decorated with snapshots of Bettie Page. HOW COOL!!!
The Japanese are lovely people, very respectful and they LOVE their fashion, full stop. Every person looks effortlessly cool, and possess their own personal, unique style. Even the school kids look cool as hell in their uniform.
Aside from shopping, we did a lot of eating too. For 8 days we were officially in Sushi heaven. We made a trip to Tsukiji fish market. I have never tasted such fresh sushi and at such an early hour. Good food, good living!!!

Mount Fuji. It was misty and we saw no Mount Fuji. We will revisit on our next trip to Japan.

Bullet train to Kyoto. Fast, clean and efficient. It left tokyo station dead on time and it ain't called the bullet train for no reason - this baby is FAST!!!
Kyoto. Ah Kyoto. All things traditional, surrounded by mountains and magnificent temples that take your breath away. These temples are set in beautiful surroundings, very tranquil and full of history. We also squeezed in some shopping (approx 7 hours in one day - my Husband was astonished, but that's pretty standard is'nt it ladies?) as well as some Geisha spotting in the Gion area before departing for Tokyo and then home.......... boooooo

The trip was a total dream holiday, I loved every moment, we took 900 pics, met some lovely people and I can't wait to return. Finally: Dear Japan, I LOVE YOU x

The Original Moonwalker?

Did anyone see Jeffrey Daniel on Jools Holland last night? Jeffrey is a choreographer and member of soul group Shalamar and best known for doing the "backslide" now known as the "moonwalk". Jeffrey performed this move on Top Of The Pops in 82 during the performance of Shalamar's " A night to remember" It is said that Jeffrey performed the "moonwalk" almost a year before MJ. For me, it does'nt matter who performed it first as both men do it outrageously well, they make it look so effortless and hell, they do actually look like they're walking on air. I've posted 2 vids up, not to compare but simply for the enjoyment factor. These dudes are SMOOTH!!!

Gladys Knight - Supervoice

As usual Jools Holland had some amazing artists on his show last night. My fav band at the mo The XX perfromed "Island" what a tune. However, the person who stole the show for me was Gladys Knight. Gladys performed her classic "Help me make it thorugh the night" This lady seriously has a gift. Each note is perfect and utterly beautiful. I got goose bumps more than once throughout the performance. Take a listen and you'll know what I mean.
